Your safety comes first
Contraindications
At Simply Aesthetics, every treatment begins with understanding you and your skin. While many of our treatments are appropriate for a wide range of clients and skin types, certain medical conditions, medications, skin conditions, recent procedures, and other circumstances may make a treatment inappropriate or mean that it should be modified or postponed.
Please review the information below before your appointment and tell us about any medical conditions, medications, allergies, recent procedures, and changes in your health or skincare routine. If you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you, please contact us before booking.
HydraFacial®
REFRESH. CLEANSE. HYDRATE.
HydraFacial is one of our most versatile treatments, but it is not appropriate for every skin condition or circumstance.
The HydraFacial manufacturer identifies several situations in which treatment should not be performed or requires additional medical guidance. These include compromised or actively inflamed skin, active infection, open lesions, active cold sores, recent isotretinoin use, certain allergies, pregnancy or lactation, and certain medical conditions or medications.
HYDRAFACIAL SHOULD GENERALLY BE POSTPONED OR AVOIDED WHEN:
ACTIVE OR COMPROMISED SKIN
Active or inflammatory acne in the treatment area
Open wounds or lesions
Active skin infection
Active cold sores or herpes simplex
Sunburned or injured skin
Significant irritation or compromised skin barrier
Active eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or similar inflammatory skin conditions
MEDICATIONS & MEDICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Current or recent isotretinoin/Accutane use
Medications associated with significant skin thinning or fragility
Certain immunosuppressive medications
Certain anticoagulant or blood-thinning medications
Certain medical conditions that may affect skin healing or sensitivity
HydraFacial’s current manufacturer information specifically recommends medical guidance for clients with autoimmune disorders, cancer, vascular disorders, communicable diseases, or medications that may increase skin fragility.
PREGNANCY & BREASTFEEDING
HydraFacial’s current device instructions state that the system has not been evaluated for pregnant or lactating clients. Certain HydraFacial solutions or boosters may also contain ingredients requiring additional consideration.
Please inform us if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding so we can determine whether treatment should be postponed or modified.
ALLERGIES & SENSITIVITIES
Please tell us about any known allergies or sensitivities to skincare ingredients.
A treatment may be modified or avoided if you have a known allergy to an ingredient contained in the selected treatment solution or enhancement.
RECENT PROCEDURES
Please tell us if you have recently had:
Chemical peels
Laser or light-based treatments
Microneedling or microchanneling
Facial surgery
Injectable treatments
Other resurfacing or exfoliating procedures
Your skin may need time to recover before another treatment is performed.
Personalized Facials
YOUR SKIN. YOUR TREATMENT.
Our customized facials may include different combinations of cleansing, exfoliation, masks, massage, dermaplaning, LED, or other enhancements.
Because every facial is customized, contraindications depend on the specific techniques and products selected.
Dermaplaning
SMOOTH, REFRESHED, RADIANT.
Dermaplaning uses a professional blade to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface and remove fine vellus hair.
Because the treatment involves controlled mechanical exfoliation, it should not be performed over actively inflamed, infected, or compromised skin.
DERMAPLANING MAY BE POSTPONED OR AVOIDED WITH:
Active acne or inflamed breakouts
Open wounds or broken skin
Active cold sores or other skin infections
Sunburn
Active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or significant rosacea flare
Significant skin irritation or compromised skin barrier
Suspicious, unidentified, or raised lesions in the treatment area
Certain bleeding disorders or medications that increase bleeding or bruising
Certain autoimmune or wound-healing conditions
Recent aggressive exfoliation or resurfacing
Recent chemical peels or laser treatments
Recent isotretinoin/Accutane use
Recent waxing, sugaring, or depilatory treatments in the treatment area
Dermaplaning is generally avoided over active acne, infection, sunburn, or actively inflamed skin because mechanical exfoliation can increase irritation or injury.
SKINCARE TO DISCLOSE
Please tell us if you are currently using:
Retinol
Prescription tretinoin/Retin-A
Exfoliating acids
Acne medications
Prescription topical medications
Other products that may increase skin sensitivity
We may recommend temporarily adjusting your routine before or after treatment.
Customized Facials
A GENTLE APPROACH STILL REQUIRES GOOD TIMING.
Even a relaxing facial may need to be postponed if your skin is actively irritated or compromised.
Please let us know if you currently have:
Active infection
Open wounds
Active cold sores
Significant sunburn
Active eczema or psoriasis flare
Significant rosacea flare
Severe skin irritation
Recent facial surgery or invasive procedures
A known allergy to an ingredient that may be used during treatment
Your provider may modify products, exfoliation, massage, or other treatment components to better suit your skin.
Microneedling
PRECISION REJUVENATION REQUIRES A HEALTHY FOUNDATION.
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin. Because of this, appropriate screening is especially important.
FDA guidance for authorized microneedling devices identifies circumstances such as active skin infection, immune suppression, uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, certain medications, active rash, active herpes, current or recent isotretinoin use, pregnancy/breastfeeding, and certain skin conditions as reasons treatment may be inappropriate or require additional evaluation.
MICRONEEDLING SHOULD NOT BE PERFORMED WHEN:
There is an active infection in the treatment area
There are open wounds or sores
There is an active cold sore/herpes outbreak
There is active inflammatory acne in the treatment area
The skin is significantly irritated or compromised
There is active eczema, psoriasis, or another inflammatory skin condition
There is active skin cancer or a suspicious lesion in the treatment area
You have a bleeding disorder or significant bleeding tendency
You are currently taking isotretinoin/Accutane
You are pregnant or breastfeeding
You have certain immune-system conditions or are immunosuppressed
You have uncontrolled diabetes or a condition that may impair wound healing
You have a known allergy to stainless steel or relevant anesthetic products
Additional precautions may apply to clients with a history of keloid scarring, autoimmune disease, rosacea, anticoagulant use, or other conditions affecting healing.
IMPORTANT
Microneedling and ProCell Microchanneling are related but are not necessarily the same treatment or protocol.
Your provider will determine which approach, if any, is appropriate for your skin.

ADVANCED CARE REQUIRES A MORE THOUGHTFUL APPROACH.
Our rejuvenative skincare category includes treatments such as:

Significant immune-system impairment
Active radiation or chemotherapy
Uncontrolled diabetes
Chronic inflammatory skin disease
Certain bleeding disorders, including hemophilia
Recent isotretinoin/Accutane use
Known stainless-steel allergy

ProCell’s current manufacturer FAQ specifically identifies these circumstances as contraindications or reasons to avoid treatment.

GOOD SKINCARE IS ALSO ABOUT TIMING.
Even when two treatments are individually appropriate, they may not be appropriate close together.
Depending on your treatment history, we may recommend waiting after:
Laser treatments
Chemical peels
Microneedling
Microchanneling
Injectables
Facial surgery
Waxing
Other exfoliating or resurfacing treatments
The appropriate interval depends on the treatment performed, your skin’s condition, and the specific protocol being used.
Medications & Skincare Products
WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN MATTERS.
Please bring or provide a current list of your skincare products and medications when requested.
Certain products—including retinoids, exfoliating acids and prescription medications—can increase skin sensitivity or affect how your skin responds to treatment.
Never stop a prescribed medication solely to receive an aesthetic treatment without discussing it with the prescribing healthcare professional.
When We May Ask You to Reschedule
Your appointment may need to be postponed if you arrive with:
An active cold sore
A significant breakout or inflammatory acne
Sunburn
Open or broken skin
Active infection
Significant irritation
A new rash
Recently performed cosmetic treatment
Another condition that makes treatment inappropriate at that time
This isn’t a cancellation of your skincare journey.
It’s simply better timing.
Your Provider May Modify Your Treatment
Some concerns are outside the scope of an aesthetic treatment.
If we identify a suspicious lesion, significant skin condition, unexplained change, infection, or other concern that requires medical evaluation, we may recommend that you consult an appropriate healthcare provider before proceeding.
We believe knowing when NOT to treat is part of excellent skincare.
When to Seek Medical Guidance
Contraindications aren’t always black and white.
Sometimes the best option is not to cancel your skincare appointment—but to change the treatment.
For example, we may:
Choose a gentler facial
Omit an exfoliating step
Avoid a specific treatment area
Select different skincare products
Remove a treatment enhancement
Delay an advanced treatment
Recommend consultation with another healthcare professional
Our goal is always to provide the most appropriate treatment for your skin on that day.
A Note About Contraindications
The information on this page is intended as general client guidance and does not replace your treatment consultation, health history review, informed consent, or the manufacturer’s current instructions for use. Your treatment may be postponed, modified, or declined when appropriate. Additional precautions may apply depending on your individual circumstances, the treatment selected, the products or enhancements used, and the professional protocols in place at Simply Aesthetics.
Your Safety Is Part of the Simply Aesthetics Experience
We want your experience to feel beautiful, personalized, and confident from the moment you arrive. That includes knowing when a treatment is appropriate and knowing when another option or a little more time is the better choice.
