Your safety comes first
Contraindications
At Simply Aesthetics, every treatment begins with understanding you and your skin. While many of our treatments are appropriate for a wide range of clients and skin types, certain medical conditions, medications, skin conditions, recent procedures, and other circumstances may affect treatment eligibility.
Understanding facial treatment contraindications helps us determine when a treatment may need to be modified, postponed, or avoided.
Please review the information below before your appointment and tell us about any medical conditions, medications, allergies, recent procedures, and changes in your health or skincare routine. If you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you, please contact us before booking.
HydraFacial®
REFRESH. CLEANSE. HYDRATE.
HydraFacial® is one of our most versatile treatments, but it is not appropriate for every skin condition or circumstance.
Certain skin conditions, medications, allergies, recent procedures, and health circumstances may make HydraFacial inappropriate or require additional precautions or medical guidance. Your provider will review these factors using current treatment protocols before proceeding.
HYDRAFACIAL MAY NEED TO BE POSTPONED, MODIFIED, OR AVOIDED WHEN:
ACTIVE OR COMPROMISED SKIN
- Severely inflamed, irritated, or open acne lesions in the treatment area
- Open wounds or lesions
- Active skin infections
- Active cold sores or herpes simplex
- Sunburned or injured skin
- Significant irritation or a compromised skin barrier
- Active eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or similar inflammatory skin conditions in the treatment area
MEDICATIONS & MEDICAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Current or recent isotretinoin/Accutane use
- Medications associated with significant skin thinning or fragility
- Certain immunosuppressive medications
- Certain anticoagulant or blood-thinning medications
- Medical conditions that may affect skin healing, sensitivity, or treatment safety

HydraFacial treatments, solutions, and boosters may have specific precautions or restrictions during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Please inform us if you are pregnant, trying
Customized Facials
YOUR SKIN. YOUR TREATMENT.
Our customized facials may include different combinations of cleansing, exfoliation, masks, massage, dermaplaning, LED therapy, or other enhancements.
Because every facial is personalized, contraindications depend on the specific techniques, products, and enhancements selected.
A customized facial may need to be modified, postponed, or avoided if you have:
- Active skin infections
- Open wounds or broken skin
- Active cold sores
- Significant sunburn
- Active eczema or psoriasis flare
- Significant rosacea flare
- Severe skin irritation or a compromised skin barrier
- Recent facial surgery or invasive procedures
- Known allergies to ingredients that may be used during treatment
Certain medications, medical conditions, and recent aesthetic procedures may also affect treatment eligibility.
Your Simply Aesthetics provider will review your skin concerns, health history, and current skincare routine. Products, exfoliation, massage, and other treatment components may be adjusted to better suit your skin.
Dermaplaning
SMOOTH. REFRESHED. RADIANT.
Dermaplaning uses a professional blade to gently exfoliate dead surface skin cells and remove fine vellus hair.
Because the treatment involves controlled mechanical exfoliation, it should not be performed over actively inflamed, infected, or compromised skin.
DERMAPLANING MAY BE POSTPONED OR AVOIDED WITH:
- Active, inflamed acne or open breakouts in the treatment area
- Open wounds or broken skin
- Active cold sores or other skin infections
- Sunburn
- Active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or significant rosacea flare
- Significant skin irritation or a compromised skin barrier
- Suspicious or unidentified skin lesions, or raised lesions that cannot be safely avoided during treatment
- Certain bleeding disorders or medications that increase bleeding or bruising
- Certain autoimmune conditions or conditions that affect wound healing
- Recent aggressive exfoliation or resurfacing
- Recent chemical peels or laser treatments
- Current or recent isotretinoin/Accutane use
- Recent waxing, sugaring, or depilatory treatments in the treatment area
Some circumstances may require additional precautions, medical guidance, or a longer recovery period before dermaplaning is appropriate.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
YOUR SKINCARE PLAN MAY NEED TO CHANGE.

Some of our treatments and products are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, while others may need to be modified.
PLEASE TELL US IF YOU ARE:
- Pregnant
- Breastfeeding
- Trying to become pregnant
- Recently postpartum
We will review your treatment options and may recommend consulting your healthcare provider before proceeding. Certain treatments or ingredients may need to be avoided or postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

GOOD SKINCARE IS ALSO ABOUT TIMING.
Even when two treatments are individually appropriate, they may not be appropriate close together.
Depending on your treatment history, we may recommend waiting after:
- Laser treatments
- Chemical peels
- Microneedling
- Microchanneling
- Injectable treatments
- Facial surgery
- Waxing
- Other exfoliating or resurfacing treatments
The appropriate interval depends on the treatment performed, your skin's condition, and the specific protocol being used.

- Anticoagulants or blood thinners
- Immunosuppressive medications

Your provider will review relevant medications and skincare products to determine whether your treatment requires additional precautions or adjustments.
Never stop a prescribed medication solely to receive an aesthetic treatment without discussing it with the prescribing healthcare professional.
When We May Ask You to Reschedule
YOUR SKIN DESERVES THE RIGHT TIMING.
Your appointment may need to be postponed if you arrive with:
- An active cold sore
- Severely inflamed acne or open breakouts affecting the treatment area
- Sunburn
- Open or broken skin
- An active skin infection
- Significant irritation or a compromised skin barrier
- A new or unexplained rash
- A recently performed cosmetic treatment that requires additional recovery time
- Another condition that makes treatment inappropriate at that time
Your provider will assess your skin and determine whether your appointment can proceed, should be modified, or needs to be rescheduled.
This isn't a cancellation of your skincare journey. It's simply better timing.
Your Provider May Modify Your Treatment
CONTRAINDICATIONS AREN'T ALWAYS BLACK AND WHITE.
Sometimes the best option is to modify your treatment rather than postpone your appointment.
Depending on your skin and individual circumstances, we may:
- Choose a gentler facial
- Omit an exfoliating step
- Avoid a specific treatment area
- Select different skincare products
- Remove a treatment enhancement
- Delay an advanced treatment
- Recommend medical guidance before proceeding
Our goal is to provide the most appropriate treatment for your skin on that day while prioritizing your safety.
When to Seek Medical Guidance
YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY COME FIRST.
Some concerns are outside the scope of cosmetic skincare treatments.
If we identify a suspicious skin lesion, significant skin condition, unexplained skin change, active infection, or another concern that requires medical evaluation, we may recommend consulting an appropriate healthcare professional before proceeding.
Certain medications, medical conditions, or recent procedures may also require medical clearance before an advanced treatment can be performed.
If you have a concerning skin condition or are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate, please contact us before your appointment.
We believe knowing when not to treat is an important part of excellent skincare.

Your treatment may be postponed, modified, or declined when appropriate. Additional precautions may apply depending on your individual circumstances, the treatment selected, the products or enhancements used, and the professional protocols in place at Simply Aesthetics.
Your Safety Is Part of the Simply Aesthetics Experience
We want your experience to feel beautiful, personalized, and confident from the moment you arrive. That includes knowing when a treatment is appropriate and knowing when another option or a little more time is the better choice.
